sh-Polypeptide-3 ist ein einkettiges synthetisches Peptid, ein Analogon des menschlichen KGF (Keratinozyten-Wachstumsfaktor). KGF wurde erstmals 1989 als menschlicher Wachstumsfaktor beschrieben, der die Proliferation von Epithelzellen stimuliert.
sh-Polypeptid-3 beeinflusst die Proliferation und Differenzierung verschiedener Zelltypen, da es Teil der Superfamilie der Fibroblasten-Wachstumsfaktoren (FGF) ist. KGF ist als wichtiger Vermittler am frühen Haarwachstum beteiligt.
