PANTENOL ist ein hygroskopisches amorphes Pulver von weißer bis cremefarbener Farbe mit einem charakteristischen Geruch. Es ist gut löslich in Wasser, Alkoholen und schlechter in Estern. Gehört zu den Amidalkoholen, hat die Aktivität der Pantothensäure. O- und O, L-Panthenole werden in Kosmetika als Provitamin B5 verwendet und haben eine heilende, feuchtigkeitsspendende und glättende Wirkung. Es wird in allen kosmetischen Formulierungen verwendet: Sonnenschutzmittel, Haut- und Haarpflegeprodukte, Babykosmetik und Rasierprodukte.
